Wolverine Entertains (Mostly)

Rating: ★★★★★★★½☆☆ 7.5/10

There were times (particularly near the beginning) when I thought this was a GREAT movie.  The action scenes were excellent and there were some really great new mutants in the mix (particularly Deadpool and Agent Zero).  I would have liked them to focus on these more than on the Wolverine back-story.

Unless you have an interesting story to tell (which they didn’t) it’s sometimes better to stick to the always-reliable action and mutant effects.  They also would have been well advised to just leave out the obligatory ties to the original X-Men movies as they were a bit distracting and unnecessary.

I’m sure it’s just me, but after watching Hugh Jackman at the Oscars this year, there were a few times that I expected him to don a top hat and break out into a broadway-style dance number.  This didn’t enhance my enjoyment of the movie, nor does it speak well of how engaging the movie was.

Overall, I liked X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but I’m just a little disappointed.  It had all the ingredients for a great movie, just not in the right quantities.
